Yes. Upper canine tooth is a tooth which receives powerful forces acting in outward direction. May be that’s why God has created us with a very long root for the canine tooth (That’s the longest of all…!).
Options available for replacing a missing canine are Implant, Bridge and Removable Denture. As many are aware of the discomfort that it takes wearing a removable denture, I’m not explaining much about the other disadvantages of it. Making a Bridge for replacing a missing tooth is also another option that has been carried out widely and is indicated if needed. However, there are certain unfavorable factors that must be noted especially, while replacing a canine tooth with bridge, which are:
- Insufficient support from Front teeth which has slender roots
- Outwardly pushing force which tends to exert a lot of force on the teeth that are involved in bridge
- So, we must consider grinding multiple teeth to take extra support
- Imagine just for replacing a single canine tooth we must grind 4 teeth
- Even then there is a risk of formation of Gap in central front tooth region
So, considering all the disadvantages of a bridge, Dental Implant is recommended to increase clinical success, as a long-term treatment option. (Provided you are medically fit for taking up Dental Implant).
